Máire Ní Chathasaigh & Chris Newman
The celebrated virtuoso partnership of Máire Ní Chathasaigh, “the greatest Celtic harper of our age”and Irish Traditional Musician of the Year, and England’s premier flatpicking guitarist, Chris Newman, has toured in twenty-two countries worldwide.
Their performances are an enticing cocktail of dynamic Irish dance-music, soulful airs, evocative songs and their own striking compositions, spiked with shots of hot jazz, bluegrass and baroque and served up with exhilarating versatility and inventiveness and “subversive wit”.
This evening’s concert will showcase material from their two new solo albums, The Crystal Veil, Máire’s exploration of the spine-tinglingly beautiful Irish ‘slow air’ tradition, and Chris’s Still Getting Away with It, a celebration of his 40 successful years as a one of the most revered and influential English acoustic guitarists of his generation. Also featured will be music from their duo CD FireWire, voted “Best Celtic Instrumental Album” in the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee - the largest music awards of any kind anywhere.

Kathakali
Kathakali originated in the beautiful state of Kerala, South West India over 500 years ago. It is based on the great Indian tradition of storytelling. Good and evil characters battle for supremacy through a stunning combination of drama, dance, music and colourful costumes and music.
Kathakali traditionally performs stories from the Indian epics, the Mahabharatha and the Ramayana. Relationships have changed little since the day these ancient plays were written to challenge spiritual values and social behaviour.

The Kala Chethena Kathakali Company of world-class artists will return to the UK between September - December.
In addition to Kathakali, Kumatti Kali, an ancient dance ritual, with traditional drummers will perform amongst the audience as they arrive creating a colourful taste of Kerala.
The Company of 6 actors, 4 musicians and make up specialists will provide performances and workshops to celebrate the power of Asian Theatre.

Dean Friedman
The summer of 1977 marked Dean Friedman’s entry into pop consciousness with the enormous success of his infectious hit single Ariel, a quirkily irresistible and uncategorizable pop song about a free spirited, music loving, girl in a peasant blouse who lived, as the lyric goes, ‘...way on the other side of the Hudson.’
A year later, Friedman struck again, this time with a magical duet, performed with singer Denise Marsa, entitled Lucky Stars. Lucky Stars zoomed to the top of the UK singles charts going instantly gold.
That now classic single Lucky Stars paved the way for a slew of hits off of Friedman's humorously titled album ‘Well, Well Said the Rocking Chair’, including familiar tracks such as Lydia and Rocking Chair as well as singles from his first album, Woman of Mine and Ariel.
During the '80's, Friedman turned his hand to composing and producing music soundtracks for TV and film; composing, performing and producing the soundtrack to the underground cult horror film classic I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle.
Friedman has recently been featured on the BBC TV series ‘I Love the ‘70’s’, confirming him as a pop culture icon of the decade. Friedman also taped a guest star appearance on comedian, David Baddiel’s new TV series in which Dean delivers a tour-de-force comedic acting performance playing ‘himself’ in an hilarious episode written about him.
Friedman, 50, makes his home in Peekskill, New York where he lives with his wife and two children, plus assorted live stock - including a monkey named Amelia.

Guilty Pleasurez
Guilty Pleasurez are a professional live group who recreate all the classic hits from the 1970s. Every member of the band is a seasoned professional and between them they have written, recorded and toured the world in a wide array of professional bands including ‘Ultravox’, ‘Dizzy Rascal’, ‘Streets’, ‘Mike Oldfield’, ‘Asia’, ‘Limehouse Lizzy’, ‘Boogie Wonderland’, ‘Voulez Vouz’, and ‘Flairz’.
Choosing their favourite ‘Those songs from the 70s’, as they put it, they soon put together a set list so mouth watering, even a Curlywurly couldn’t out chew it! All that was needed to complete the band, was some like minded quality musicians who understood the concept of what was to be the ‘Guilty Pleasurez’ band.
Enter one Gary Williams, a supreme bass player who was not shy to the odd 70s tune, in his own ‘Boogie Wonderland’ band, an astounding bass player with the clothes to match!
With the core band now rocking into shape, they called upon not one but two vocalists. Firstly the incredible Sam Blue, a session singer straight from the premier league, with a CV as long as your arm, and a great musical friend of Gregs.
Finally, to add a touch of glamour to the stage, they also called on Abba tribute vocalist and blonde bombshell, the beautiful Janey to sing lead and backing vocals, adding a classic dimension to the ‘GP Sound’.

Larry Miller
Larry Miller is fast becoming one of the must see rock acts of 2010. After picking up his brother’s guitar and writing his first song, he felt his future lay in Rock music.
To begin with Larry decided to concentrate on Blues Rock: “For me, my moment of inspiration was seeing Rory Gallagher live, I had never experienced anything like it. So loud, so gloriously on the edge of total mayhem, yet Rory was still totally in control. How could I NOT do this too! Like Rory I’d work under my own name, with a band. I’d do all the writing, singing, producing, playing and leading.”
Larry’s status as a legendary Guitar slinger is no accident. The recipient of an amazing seven standing ovations (and a declaration of a “National Larry Miller day”) at the Cambridge Rock festival, His life is his music - however, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, he is often seen laughing and joking with his audience during a set, and enjoys interacting with them. He is happy to get in amongst his fans and chat with them after a gig, and is universally known amongst his fans as “the nicest man in Rock and Roll”.
The Larry Miller Band features bassist Derek White, Simon Baker on Drums, and Ian Salisbury on the Hammond Organ.

Monsters of Classic Rock
Monsters of Classic Rock brings together the cream of classic rock tribute bands in a spectacular live show. The 2010 tour features the dream line up of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, performed by Deeply Purple and Led Zep Too.
Deeply Purple are the UK's premier Deep Purple tribute band, faithfully recreating the amazing, guitar thrashing, organ rocking, virtuoso live performances that in the early 70's made Deep Purple the most exciting live band on the planet. Every facet of Deep Purple's music is faithfully reproduced and there's more – the bands mission is to go beyond the straight reproduction of the songs and tap into the energy and improvisation that made each Deep Purple live performance unique. It doesn't get any better than this!
Led Zep Too brings you the very best of Led Zeppelin. The band have made a name for themselves with some stunning live performances based on their ability to be able to improvise… just like the real Zep. It will be loud and wild but they aim to play as many of the classics as they can fit into the set, leaving you breathless like Page/Plant/Jones and Bonham used to do.
Plymouth Herald said "The self indulgent pompousness of the original live Led Zeppelin has been unchained and allowed to run amok."

Dick Gaughan
Well, firstly, and most importantly, Dick Gaughan is a Scot, from Leith on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. Leith, once a separate port, has been part of Edinburgh since the 1920s but has retained a distinct identity.
He has been a professional musician and singer since Jan 1970. Has been playing guitar since the age of 7 and made his first solo album in 1971. Working mainly in the areas now known as "Folk" or "Celtic" music, he has recorded quite extensively since then in many countries and in various combinations. Has also worked extensively as a session musician in a wide variety of musical styles.
During this time he has also been fairly active as a record producer/engineer, midi programmer, composer and orchestrator - composing music for films for the BBC, Scottish Arts Council and independent producers as well as a full symphony ("Treaty 300") and a 12-part suite for orchestra ("Timewaves") - actor and theatre music director, having been in both roles with the celebrated 7:84 (Scotland) Theatre Company in the early 80s, songwriter whose songs have been recorded by, among many others, Billy Bragg, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Roy Bailey and Capercaillie.
Gaughan was an early member of the band Boys of the Lough and is on their first album and was with the now-legendary Scottish Folk-Rock (what a lousy label that is!) band, Five Hand Reel, making 3 albums with them. In the 90s he founded and produced the short-lived but quite extraordinary ensemble Clan Alba.
Gaughan has been the subject of three full television documentaries in the UK - BBC2 Spectrum (1982), Scottish Television NB (1989) and BBC4 Session (2006) - as well as many radio documentaries in several countries.
His 1981 album Handful of Earth was voted Album of the Decade for the 1980s in both Readers' and Critics' polls in "Folk Roots" (now called "fRoots").
Having very eclectic tastes, he also plays everything from free jazz and rock to country music. He plays most fretted stringed instruments but his natural instrument, and perhaps what he is happiest doing, is acoustic guitar.
Dick Gaughan lists his greatest influences as Karl Marx, Groucho Marx, Flann O'Brien, Bert Jansch, Tim Berners-Lee, Hank Williams, Bertolt Brecht, Martin Carthy, Robert Burns and everybody else he ever met, read, saw, heard or spoke with.

G2
The seed of G2 kicked off way back in 1997. Three complete strangers met through circumstance and formed the nucleus of what became the progressive rock tribute Kudos. David Wilk (bass), Paolo Picone (guitar) & Steve Jarman (drums). They were quickly joined by Neale Worley (keyboards).
The band had mixed fortunes in terms of success. Trying to promote something so clearly defined and yet so broadly diverse proved a difficult task. 18 months down the road Paolo departed and David Rollins joined the ranks.
Kudos continued to find very loyal niche audiences all over London, but trying to please all the people all the time was taking its toll on the band. Even internally, the various styles of music weren't finding a united interest. Steve gave up and David Rollins left to join the up and coming Yes tribute, Fragile.
Then there were two! Neale discussed doing a Genesis tribute using the Seconds Out album as the core, with David Wilk. Both began auditioning Singers, Guitarists & Drummers for the project. David Rollins was persuaded to come and play during drummer, Jeff Walker's audition. Jeff created such an incredible vibe that evening. It was like a magical moment when everyone there knew they had something good. Both joined on the spot.
G2 still had no singer and no name. Finding a singer was the hardest part and took several months, before Neale discovered Terry Day. Terry was the missing link, the final part of the musical jigsaw. If Phil Collins's mum had twins, then somehow, they were separated at birth because Terry has been in denial ever since of his uncanny parallel mannerisms and vocal sound to the man himself.

Beverley Craven
Beverley Craven is one of the most successful singer / songwriters the UK has ever produced. Best known for her 1991 hit Promise Me and multi-million selling eponymous album, Beverley is back on the road supporting her new CD “Close To Home”, her first album in 10 years. Backed by an array of multi talented musicians this an evening guaranteed to show you an artist at the top of her game.
Beverley was born in Sri Lanka on July 28th, 1963. Her family relocated back to the UK when she was 18 months old and settled in Hertfordshire.
Encouraged by her mother, an accomplished classical violinist, Beverley began taking piano lessons at the age of seven. She also proved to be a talented swimmer, going on to represent her county in national championships.
After a brief stint at art college, Beverley left home aged 18 and moved to London, intent on carving out a career in the music business. The next few years saw her stuggling to find the all-important break, making ends meet with a succession of day jobs whilst pursuing her musical ambitions with session work and pub gigs with various bands.
In the late 80s Beverley's perseverence paid off when she was offered a job as a backing vocalist on a European tour with soul legend Bobby Womack, and then in 1988, the big break finally came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Epic Records who immediately offered her a recording contract.
After a stint in the States, developing her writing and performing skills, Beverley commenced work on her self-titled debut album which was released in the UK in 1990. Its success was almost unprecendented - within a year it had been certified double platinum with sales of over one million copies and it went on to spend an incredible 52 weeks on the UK album chart.
The debut single, 'Promise Me', also became a huge hit, reaching number 3 on the UK singles chart and also charting across Europe. Further hits followed with 'Holding On', 'Woman To Woman' and 'Memories', whilst Beverley performed sold-out shows across the UK, mainland Europe and the USA.
And so, ten years after the release of her last studio album, Beverley is finally back with 'Close To Home', her long-awaited and perhaps most personal album to date. "It's a rebirth in many ways," she says. "Only this time there's no record deal and no pressure. I'm doing things on my terms now and you know what - I’m really enjoying myself!"

Richard Digance
Richard Digance is known as one of the great folk entertainers of the 70s and 80s. His evergreen career has been acknowledged through numerous awards within both the music and entertainment industries, from a BAFTA Nomination as a TV entertainer to a Gold Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. He has supported Steve Martin in the USA, Robin Williams at The London Palladium and is included in The Virgin Anthology of Songwriters for his important contribution to British comedy songwriting.
When presented with the Gold Award from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters he was described as someone who for half a century has travelled the world with just a guitar and an immense collection of stories gathered through his own experiences. That kind of says it all.
However, Richard Digance does not rest on his immense reputation. In the last two years he has broadened his appeal, firstly by proving to be one of Britain’s most sought after cruise entertainers and secondly by returning to his musical roots through major festival appearances.
His book Footynotes, written with Sky's Chris Kamara, reached the top 10 in WH Smith's best-sellers list in November 2008. He has worked with a multitude of world-class artists; Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, Elton John, Steeleye Span, David Essex, Jim Davidson, Supertramp, Elkie Brooks and Tom Jones.
His TV specials for ITV ran for a record 11 years and on these shows he played guitar with Brian May, Status Quo, The Moody Blues, Buffy St Marie, Juan Martin, Marc Cohn who wrote Walking in Memphis and Chris de Burgh

The Men They Couldn’t Hang
The Men They Couldn’t Hang are a British rock band whose mixture of folk and punk is not dissimilar to that of The Pogues. Their first single, “The Green Fields of France”, was released in 1984. Written by Eric Bogle (of “And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” fame), it received considerable airplay on the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 and became a big hit on the UK Indie Chart.
The Men They Couldn't Hang were officially formed in early 1984. The founding members were Phil "Swill" Odgers (vocals, guitar), Paul Simmonds (guitar, bouzouki, keyboards) and Jon Odgers (drums) from punk-pop band "Catch 22" with Shanne Bradley (bass, flute - former member of Shane MacGowan's band "The Nips") and Stefan Cush (vocals, guitar), whom they met while busking in West London.
TMTCH appeared at a St Patrick's Day festival in 1984 and were also asked to play at a benefit gig for the striking miners. Paul Simmonds wrote the song "Shirt Of Blue" on the way to the gig when he watched a whole police force gathering.
In 1985 they released their first album "Night Of A Thousand Candles", closely followed by "How Green Is The Valley" in 1986. Among the TMTCH fans, these two album remain the most popular due to now classic Men songs like "Ironmasters", "Ghosts Of Cable Street" and "Shirt Of Blue".
Shanne Bradley left in 1987 and was replaced by Ricky McGuire, a former member of punk band the UK Subs.
The third album "Waiting For Bonaparte", released in 1988, was again bursting with great songs such as "The Colours", "Smugglers" and "Bounty Hunter", which became live favourites.
By now they had attracted the attention of the rest of Europe and by the time they released their album "Silvertown" in 1989, they were asked to play at a big festival in Estonia in front of thousands of people.
June 2009 saw the release of “Devil On The Wind” on Robb Johnson’s indie label Irregular Records. Signing up to the indie label allowed the band the artistic freedom they had craved since their first record deal. The new album is an interesting mix between the new TMTCH sound while reflecting on earlier gems.
